<span>STORY: :: Washington, D.C.</span><span>:: December 7, 2025</span><span>:: Trump says ‘we’ll work it out’ after talks with Canadian and Mexican leaders on trade</span><span>”Mexico and Canada we met with the as you know, I mean it was pretty well a lot of people were here. Right here we met. And the Prime Minister of Canada, President of Mexico, and we spoke for a half hour. Very good, very productive, talked mostly trade.”</span><span>”Will you restart negotiations with Canada?”</span><span>”Oh well, look, I have a great relationship with Canada. They’re very tough traders, but I have a very good relationship with the Prime Minister and with Canada.”</span><span>”And you had said you would halt those negotiations earlier after the tariffs.”</span><span>”Well I have halted that.”</span><span> “And so will you restart that?”</span><span>”Yeah, well say. I mean, you know, the problem is Canada makes a lot of things that we don’t need because we make them also. But we’ll work it out. Canada’s a special place, and they really are good at ice hockey, aren’t they?”</span><span>Trump said he met with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for a half-hour to discuss trade issues, after they jointly hosted the 2026 World Cup draw on Friday.</span><span>Trump was speaking on the red carpet at Washington’s Kennedy Center ahead of its annual awards night.</span><span>The meeting came as the United States, Mexico and Canada prepare for a mandatory 2026 formal review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement amid rising U.S. tariffs and calls by Washington to renegotiate or possibly withdraw from the pact.</span><span>Trump had an amicable meeting with Carney in October, but then suspended all trade talks with Canada after the province of Ontario aired an advertisement using video of former President Ronald Reagan warning that tariffs lead to trade wars and economic disaster.</span><span>Trump also threatened to increase duties on Canadian imports, though he has yet to follow through.</span>
