The Seattle Mariners have been busy this offseason, both in transactions and discussions.
The Mariners began the offseason with a bang by bringing back 2025 trade-deadline acquisition and first baseman Josh Naylor on a five-year, $92.5 million contract.
Since then, Seattle has added to its bullpen and its bench. The M’s acquired high-leverage left-handed reliever Jose Ferrer in a trade with the Washington Nationals that sent top 100 prospect and catcher Harry Ford to the U.S. capital.
The Mariners then signed backup catcher Andrew Knizner to a one-year deal and added first baseman/outfielder Rob Refsnyder, a specialist against left-handed pitching, to the team on a one-year deal.
Seattle has also remained active in the trade market.
The Mariners have been reported to have been engaged in trade conversations with the St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks for second basemen Brendan Donovan and Ketel Marte, respectively.
Reports heated up during winter meetings in Orlando, Fla., and the days that followed, but since that news, there has been little news on the trade front aside from the potential packages both the Cardinals and Diamondbacks want.
St. Louis’ potential asking price for Donovan could be the reason why there’s been little movement on the trade front.
According to a report from Katie Woo of the Athletic, one of players the Cardinals is interested in is Seattle switch-pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje.

If Cijntje is worried about the trade rumors, he isn’t showing it. The ambidextrous hurler recently published a story on Instagram showing him ramping up for the 2026 season.
The video showed Cijntje, donned in a Mariners work-out shirt, throwing with both arms.
Cijntje was picked by Seattle in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Mississippi State. He drew almost instant notoriety as the first legitimate switch-pitcher with starter-potential in decades.
Cijntje made his professional debut this past season and was named a competitor in the MLB All-Star Futures Game.
Cijntje began his career with the High-A Everett AquaSox and was promoted to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers on Aug. 4.
Across High-A and Double-A, Cijntje posted a 3.99 ERA with 120 strikeouts in 108.1 innings pitched across 26 appearances (23 starts).
Cijntje is currently ranked the 90th-best prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline. He’s one of three Mariners top 100 pitching prospects.
The other two are left-handed hurler, and 2025 first-round pick, Kade Anderson (No. 23 MLB Pipeline top 100) and 2024 second-round pick Ryan Sloan (No. 44).
MLB Pipeline projects Cijntje and Anderson to make their major league debuts in 2027 and Sloan to make his first big league appearance in 2028.
