Ecommerce giant Shein has announced that it is launching a logistics center near Wrocław, in Poland. The center will become the company’s main operational hub in Europe. The area will be around 740,000 square meters.
Earlier this year, we already posted about how more and more Chinese ecommerce companies are opening storage and distribution centers in Europe. This year alone, Chinese companies have taken up around 200,000 square meters of warehouse space in the United Kingdom.
For most Chinese ecommerce platforms, local warehouses are a way to shorten delivery times. With the upcoming abolition of the exemption on import duties, platforms want to ship more order from within Europe. Just last month, Temu announced that it was expanding its European delivery network through a couple of partnerships.
Collaboration with local businesses
Now, Shein has announced that it is building a new facility in Poland. According to the company, it is collaborating with more than 170 local small and medium-sized businesses, including transportation and packaging services.
The new facility is expected to reach full capacity by the end of this year
The new logistics center will be equipped with robotic systems and automated sorting lines. It is expected to reach full capacity by the end of this year, coming to 740,000 square meters. The company also expects that the center will create 5,000 new jobs.
European hub
The center will be used as a European hub. Polish and European brands and sellers can use it as well, and become active on the platform. Leonard Lin, President of Shein Europe, Middle East and Africa, said that the investment strengthens the company’s long-term commitment to the region and will allow it to better serve customers across Europe with faster and more reliable deliveries.
