Saint Augustine’s announces new president, financial partner during accreditation battle

Saint Augustine’s University said it has new leadership and a new financial partner to help them in their continued fight to remain accredited.

The board appointed Dr. Jennie Ward as its new interim president in December, but the school only announced the change on Wednesday.

It comes after Marcus Burgess resigned from the position in July.

The school said it’s working with fair-lending advocate Self-Help.

SAU is operational and accredited as of the 2026 spring semester. WRAL has requested updated enrollment numbers for the 2025-2026 school year multiple times. The university has not responded to those inquires.
