SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz decided to shake things up in a big way ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring Jaren Jackson Jr. from Memphis for a large haul including young players and draft capital.
NBA Insider Shams Charania first broke the news on Tuesday, February 3.

In exchange for Jaren Jackson Jr., John Konchar, Jock Landale, and Vince Williams Jr., the Utah Jazz sent out Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang, and three future first-round picks.
Jackson Jr. is a two-time All-Star, the 2023 NBA defensive player of the year, a two-time blocks leader, and a three-time all-defensive player.
This season, he is averaging 19.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists on 47.5 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from three.

Utah Jazz Make Splash With Jaren Jackson Jr. Trade
Utah is also bringing in three solid rotational pieces in Konchar, Landale, and Williams Jr.
The most notable of those three is potentially Landale, who is averaging 11.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 45 games played this season.
PG: Keyonte George
SG: Ace Bailey
SF: Lauri Markkanen
PF: Jaren Jackson Jr.
C: Walker KesslerThat’s a huge lineup next year, and the question becomes, where do the Jazz add depth to lock in a playoff berth?
I don’t think you make this trade, then wait until 2028 to compete.

With Walker Kessler out, Utah has heavily relied on Jusuf Nurkic for center minutes to this point. Now, both Jackson Jr. and Landale can provide help for the 14-year vet.
Williams Jr., a 25-year-old guard out of VCU, is also an interesting prospect. After sliding deep into the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft, he has proven to be a solid contributor in the NBA.
In 34 games played this season, he is averaging 8.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists.
What Did Utah Send In Exchange For Jaren Jackson Jr.?
The Jazz sent Memphis Clayton Jr., Anderson, Hendricks, Niang, and three first-round picks.
Niang had yet to play this season with a foot injury. Both Anderson and Hendricks have had their ups and downs, and stretches where they have been in and out of the Jazz lineup.
Perhaps the biggest player sent out was Clayton Jr., the 19th overall pick in the 2025 draft, who Utah seemingly had really liked both in the pre-draft process and in the start to his rookie season.

The biggest part of this deal from Memphis’ point of view is absolutely the draft capital. The Grizzlies now have 13 first-round picks in the next seven years, tied for the most in the NBA alongside Oklahoma City and Brooklyn.
The Jazz are reportedly sending the Grizzlies a Los Angeles Lakers 2027 first-round pick, the most favorable of the Jazz’s, Minnesota Timberwolves’, or Cleveland Cavaliers’ first-round pick, and a 2031 Phoenix Suns unprotected first round-pick.
