PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio — The spring departure of longtime Parma Heights Finance Director/Human Resources Director Katie Iaconis led to the recent shuffling of departments.

“Katie is no longer with us,” Parma Heights Mayor Marie Gallo said.

“She was offered a position working for the city of University Heights as finance director for more money, which she accepted.”

After months of seeking a replacement, during which time Parma Heights Assistant Finance Director Vic Nogalo was named the interim, the city hired Bob Satow.

He started as the new finance director on Oct. 1.

“Bob has an accounting background, an accounting degree and has served in various private sector positions as manager of accounting, senior accountant and financial analyst,” she said

“We’re fortunate to find a finance director with an accounting background because right now, it’s extremely difficult for cities and municipalities to find finance directors. There is a shortage, so we’re grateful to have Robert as part of our team.”

Satow trained with Nogalo, who has now returned to the assistant finance director role.

As for the human resources director position, Gallo made a decision to separate it from the finance director role.

“I felt it was best to reorganize both departments and to separate the two positions so that the human resources director handles human resources-related issues only and then the finance director can focus solely on the finances of the city,” she said.

This led to the recent hiring of Thomas Weinreich as the part-time director.

“Tom was the old Parma safety director and also the human resources director there for a short period of time,” she said.

While Satow’s salary of $100,000 mirrors what Iaconis was earning annually, Weinreich is making $52,000 a year.

“I’m always cognizant of the city’s finances as far as hiring employees,” she said.
