The Dallas Mavericks are widely expected to be sellers at the NBA trade deadline, with star Anthony Davis being the most likely player to be moved. Still, it’s anyone’s guess who would be willing to trade for him considering just how often he gets injured.
His latest injury came on Christmas Day, with him suffering a groin strain, which was decided by him a few weeks prior to the deadline. That is awful timing that could further sabotage his trade value, though there may be one team willing to take a chance on him if the price is right.
The Golden State Warriors are in a similar boat to the Mavericks in the sense that they are trying to make the playoffs but appear not to have the talent to do so without making a big move. Dallas likely isn’t going to add talent at the deadline, though Golden State might.
The Golden State Warriors could trade for Anthony Davis
According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Golden State is interested in Davis, even though acquiring him would be tricky. He is making $54.1 million this season and would require Golden State to part with Draymond Green to help match salaries.
Don’t worry, Mavs fans, Green likely won’t be suiting up for Dallas. Haynes is also reporting that he would be going to a third team if Davis is traded to Golden State. If that were to happen, Dallas could actually get a good return for Davis.
Adding Davis to the Warriors would beef up their defense and give them a dramatic improvement at center, but it could cost them. Draymond Green has been with the team for 14 years and has won four championships with the Warriors.
Even just a few weeks ago, the idea of trading Draymond Green for Davis would have seemed like a non-starter. However, given Green’s recent blowup against coach Steve Kerr and his declining play, perhaps it’s time for Golden State to consider moving on from him in favor of adding Davis.
Mavericks just found the perfect Anthony Davis trade partner
A hypothetical trade would see Golden State ship out two first-round picks and Jonathan Kuminga to the Mavericks, while a third team would likely have to get involved to take back Green.
One potential landing spot could be the Detroit Pistons. They are trying to make the playoffs and could use more defense while also having plenty of salary to send out in a trade.
There is definitely a possibility of getting a deal. Especially if the Mavs can get a decent prospect in Kuminga and two firsts, making it a potential win-win for both them and the Lakers.
