The Golden State Warriors are unwilling to part with Draymond Green in a potential trade for Anthony Davis, per ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.
After reports surfaced of the Warriors exploring a deal for the 10-time All-Star, Siegel noted that the Bay Area franchise would prefer to move on from Jimmy Butler III instead of parting with their longtime defensive anchor.
“If the Warriors truly look to pursue Anthony Davis, they would do so attempting to put something together around Jimmy Butler, while maintaining Jonathan Kuminga for separate additions,” Siegel reported on X.
“Golden State isn’t trading Draymond Green unless Steph [Curry], [Steve] Kerr, and [Joe] Lacob all green light it.”
Warriors Trade Pitch for AD
It’s worth noting that Davis ($54.1M) and Butler ($54.1M) earn the same salary for the 2025-26 season, making a direct swap possible under the NBA’s new CBA, which imposes certain restrictions on apron teams. Also, the Warriors have up to three tradeable first-round picks that they can potentially use in a deal.
The Mavericks, who seem intent on ushering in the Cooper Flagg era, may be hesitant to bring in Butler, 36, who is a shell of the player who guided the Miami Heat to the NBA Finals in 2023. They would, perhaps, be more keen on a package built around Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, to add to their young core around Flagg.
Siegel’s report added that the Warriors have not indicated their desire to move Butler, even though they love a potential Green/Davis front court.
“The Warriors have long looked at Davis as the ideal center next to Draymond/Steph, but the Dubs have loved everything Jimmy Butler has brought them. It’s an option, but AD’s injuries stand out,” he wrote on X.
It’s nearly mathematically impossible for the Warriors to acquire Davis without giving up at least one of Butler or Green, Siegel acknowledged.
Anthony Davis to Warriors Buzz
For what it’s worth, Chris Haynes reported Friday night that the Mavericks are not enamored with a potential Warriors trade package for Davis.
“I was told they’re contemplating making a case to acquire Anthony Davis,” Haynes told the “NBA on Prime” telecast. “And with that being said, I was told that Dallas was not that fascinated with what Golden State has on its books.”
Davis is among the many athletic bigs the Warriors are reportedly pursuing ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, with names such as Brooklyn Nets‘ Nic Claxton, Portland Trail Blazers’ Robert Williams and Dallas Mavericks’ Daniel Gafford earmarked as other targets. Per ClutchPoints, the Warriors recently reached out to the Nets, Pelicans and Chicago to inquire aboutt he availability of certain frontcourt players.
It makes perfect sense for the Warriors to pursue frontcourt help. Steve Kerr’s team ranks 17th in opponent paint points allowed (51.2), 19th in rebounding (44.0), 21st in blocked shots per game (4.4) and dead last in paint points scored (42.5).
Draymond Green, who has been forced to play a lot of center, has reportedly been unhappy with his role, leading to the recent rift with Kerr.
