Lucid (LCID) took ‘quite a few’ Rivian trade-ins in 2025, but most were still Tesla

Lucid Motors (LCID) saw “quite a few” trade-ins from Rivian (RIVN) this past year, but most were from Tesla (TSLA) owners.

Lucid had over 100 Rivian trade-in requests in 2025

Which electric vehicle brand does it better? Lucid, Rivian, or Tesla? Although they are unique, the three are often pitted against one another because they are pure EV players.

Earlier today, Tesla and Rivian both reported fewer vehicle deliveries in 2025 compared to the year prior, but we are still waiting to see Lucid’s official numbers.

After struggling to ramp up Gravity production throughout the first half of the year, Lucid claimed output was picking up in the final few months of 2025 and was expected to account for the bulk of deliveries.

Although we will still have to wait for official sales numbers to be released, Lucid’s communication boss, Nick Twork, said the company “took in quite a few rivian trades this year and had well over 100 trade in requests from Rivian owners.”

Twork added that “the majority of our trade ins are Teslas,” which is expected given the many more Tesla drivers.

Lucid’s head of communications was responding to user @RivianTrackr on X, claiming someone traded in a new Gravity with 1,400 miles for a Rivian R1S in Orlando.

The comments come after Twork reassured investors on X last month about Lucid’s growth plans as the company’s stock price hit an all-time low.

Like the entire US auto industry, Lucid is facing headwinds due to the policy changes under the Trump Administration. Unlike others that have scaled back EV plans, Twork said, “We’re building through it and ramping.”

Lucid aims to produce 18,000 vehicles this year, at the lower end of its initial target of 20,000 to 18,000. With only 9,966 built at its Casa Grande, Arizona, manufacturing plant, it will need to produce another 8,000 more to hit its goal.

We will learn Lucid’s Q4 and full-year 2025 production and delivery numbers any day now. Twork said Lucid will share more about its growth plan during Capital Markets Day in the first quarter.

While Lucid’s stock price dropped by over 60% in 2025, Rivian’s and Tesla’s stock prices rose by 45% and 15%, respectively.

Will 2025 be Lucid’s comeback with Gravity production ramping up and the midsize platform due out later this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. Check back soon for Lucid’s Q4 and full-year 2025 results.
