Giannis Antetokounmpo may ultimately end up being traded ahead of the February deadline, but there doesn’t seem to be much movement on that front thus far.

According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, “Interested teams continue to wait for the Bucks to signal that they’ve made Antetokounmpo available. To date Milwaukee has not and has even countered with whispered messaging that it remains in the market for roster upgrades to help Antetokounmpo.”

He added that there is “a growing belief among trade-trackers” that teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder “do not plan to join the chase for Antetokounmpo even if the Bucks ultimately do decide to consider in-season proposals for their two-time MVP.”

Stein also reported that he’s “spoken to some teams who continue to express the belief that the Bucks will indeed ultimately opt to field pitches for Antetokounmpo at some point in January ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline.”

Of course, it’s hard to imagine the Bucks moving Antetokounmpo unless he directly asks to be traded. While Milwaukee has probably exercised all possible avenues to build a contender around him at this point, dealing him would usher in a full-blown rebuild and a new era of Bucks basketball.

It would be strange to see Antetokounmpo in a different uniform. For now, it remains fairly murky whether it will be a reality.
