GameStop announces ‘Trade Anything Day’
GameStop has always had a trade-in system for old games or consoles, but on Dec. 6, customers can trade in almost anything for in-store credit.

GameStop isn’t just taking in video games or collectibles on Saturday, Dec. 6; the retailer’s “Trade Anything Day” allows customers to bring just about anything they want.
Trade-ins have become synonymous with GameStop, but on Dec. 6, the company will hold its first-ever Trade Anything Day, where people can trade in whatever they desire, with some restrictions, for store credit, GameStop told USA TODAY in an email.
The object customers choose to trade in must fit in a 20x20x20 box, and they can trade in up to one item.
Here’s what to know about the event GameStop is hosting.
When is GameStop’s Trade Anything Day?
Trade Anything Day will fall on Saturday, Dec. 6, according to GameStop.
What will people receive for their trade-ins?
Customers will receive store credit for their trade-ins, per GameStop.
How will trade-in value be determined?
Anyone who brings in something to trade in will receive a $5 trade card that can be used that day or in the future, according to GameStop’s website.
If someone brings in items that GameStop already accepts as a trade-in, such as a video game or console, the trade-in will be processed normally.
What can be traded in?
Almost anything can be traded in at Gamestop on Trade Anything Day as long as it fits in a 20x20x20 box, including crafts.
Whether you crochet, knit, sculpt, or do any craft, you can trade in the things you’ve created as long as they fit in the 20x20x20 box.
What cannot be traded in?
The following objects and materials can not, by any means, be traded in, according to GameStop:
- Hazardous waste, material, chemicals or liquids.
- Lithium-ion batteries or items containing lithium-ion batteries.
- Weapons and ammo
- Dead or alive animals, not including taxidermied animals.
- Legal or illegal alcohol, tobacco, drugs or pharmaceuticals.
- Computers, excluding some MacBooks that GameStop normally accepts for trade-in.
- Other machines such as document scanners, printers, 3D printers, label printers or digital picture frames.
- Small electronic equipment, such as portable digital music players, VCRs, DVD players, DVRs, digital converter boxes, cable or satellite receivers and projectors.
- Gift cards
- Sexual and explicit items
- Anything resembling body parts
GameStop employees also have the discretion to reject any item brought in for trade-in, the company said.
GameStop announces record $30,494 trade-in before Trade Anything Day
Just days before Trade Anything Day, a customer in Grapevine, Texas, sold the gaming retailer a fully authenticated PSA Grade 10 Holo Gengar card with a fair-market valuation of $33,883 on Dec. 1, according to a news release posted on X.
After completing an inspection, verification and compliance procedures, the store paid the customer $30,494, the company said.
“This event now constitutes the most valuable single trade-in ever recorded in GameStop history,” GameStop said in the news release.
The gaming retailer added, “Furthermore, any trolls who publicly claim that GameStop trade-in values are bad are hereby factually and demonstrably incorrect. Any prior and ongoing objections to our trade values are now deemed without merit and factually invalid.”
