Eagles linked to stunning Jalen Hurts trade with NFC opponent

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are still fresh off of a third straight loss in Week 14, falling to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football by a final score of 22-19.

With the loss, the Eagles dropped to 8-5 on the season. They are still in solid shape to get into the playoffs, but they do not look like a top-tier Super Bowl contender at this point in time.

Against the Chargers, Hurts played a horrible game. He completed just 21 of his 40 pass attempts for 240 yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions, while also losing a fumble in the game to total five turnovers.

So far this season, the Philadelphia offense has looked rough. Hurts has not been nearly as good as fans expected him to be. That has raised some reason for concern about the future.

Not only has concern started popping up about the future of the Eagles’ offense, trade rumors have started swirling surrounding Hurts.

The “Inside Coverage” podcast on Yahoo Sports recently suggested a trade that would send Hurts out of Philadelphia to another NFC team. They mentioned the New Orleans Saints as a potential trade destination, where Hurts could reunite with former Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

“Someone always wants a quarterback. Someone always needs a quarterback. The New Orleans Saints, in this case,” the crew said. “I do think it is time. Listen, (Hurts) won a Super Bowl last year. He’s not a bum. He’s a good player. But clearly, he’s hit a wall. (Hurts) has got a month to turn it around. He does. But I do think you need to start asking the question and looking at the contract and asking … is there an exit strategy here? And who would want him next year?”

Hurts being traded to the Saints would cause a massive shift in the NFC landscape. Of course, the Eagles would need to scramble to find a quarterback to replace him.

Throughout the entire 2025 NFL season, Hurts has thrown for 2,754 yards, 19 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while completing 64.7 percent of his passes. He has also picked up 337 yards and eight more scores on the ground.

While no one can say that Philadelphia will not be trading Hurts, it’s possible that there are some overreactions happening right now. The Eagles could shock the league by moving on from him, but it seems much more likely that Hurts will be back with the team in 2026.
