DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers traded right-handed reliever Chase Lee to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for the addition of veteran right-hander Kyle Finnegan, whose signing should be made official in the coming days.

The Tigers will receive 24-year-old left-hander Johan Simon from the Blue Jays.

Lee, 27, made his MLB debut on April 22, 2025, and had an excellent start to his career, going 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA over his first 25 games (30 2/3 innings).

But he was battered in three rough outings in July, giving up 10 runs on five home runs over just two innings. Lee was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after the Tigers acquired several pitchers at the deadline and didn’t pitch again in the big leagues.

Lee was acquired from the Texas Rangers in July 2024 in exchange for left-hander Andrew Chafin.

Simon, a native of the Dominican Republic, had a 3.42 ERA over three levels in 2025, striking out 79 in 71 innings.

The Tigers’ 40-man roster will be full when Finnegan is added.
