Canucks predicted to trade $1.2 million forward that they just traded for

The Vancouver Canucks have already been busy in the trade market.

They’re not expected to slow down. It feels like every name on their roster is part of a trade rumor at the moment.

One of the latest is Lukas Reichel, who has only been with the Canucks for about three months.

Despite that, the pending restricted free agent with the $1.2 million cap hit made the trade big board put out by Daily Faceoff.

At just 23 years old with some intriguing scoring talent, Reichel could be a good buy-low opportunity for another team.

“That was quick,” Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin writes. “The Canucks acquired Reichel from the Chicago Blackhawks in October, and the Canucks made him available for a trade by November. He’s running out of chances to translate his speed and skill into NHL production. Prospects of this ilk are common: your skill set only works on a scoring line, and if there are no opportunities there, your skill set doesn’t work on a depth line. It’s difficult for players like that to find homes at the NHL level. He passed through waivers unclaimed in December, which gives you a sense of how he’s valued around the league at the moment.”

That last sentence is the scary part for Vancouver. Would Reichel even have any trade value to get something notable in return?

At the moment, it seems like not much, but it still might be the right move for the Canucks to make.

It’s in their best interests to keep building a team that they believe in for the future. And right now, Reichel doesn’t necessarily seem like he fits in that.
