A&O Shearman has named Jan Sysel, a long-time Fried Frank attorney, as partner and head of fund finance in the US. His inclusion is intended to help the firm bolster its stateside presence in the industry.

Sysel’s fund finance experience has mainly entailed working on deals tied to fund formation, A&O Shearman noted, citing sub lines and hybrid facilities as examples of instruments he has worked on.

He spent decades at Fried Frank, first joining as an associate in 2005 and later becoming a partner. Sysel’s time there included a 2012-13 stint at Goldman Sachs as a secondee, which was via a temporary arrangement that the bank had with Fried Frank.

Sysel is an established voice in fund finance. He has contributed to Global Legal Insights’ annual publication for industry laws and regulations, which is informally known as the Pink Book. He is also involved with the Fund Finance Association as a member of its US advisory council.
