The New York Yankees were able to re-sign star outfielder Cody Bellinger to a lucrative five-year, $162.5 million contract. With that move, they opened the door to potentially making another move.
Now that Bellinger has been locked in long-term, the Yankees need to figure out what they’re going to do with both Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez.
At this point in time, trade rumors are flying. It seems possible that New York could trade one of its young outfielders. Both of them would carry heavy value on the trade market.
With that in mind, a new trade pitch has been suggested for the Yankees that would see Dominguez flipped to an American League East rival.
New York Yankees Trade Pitch Would Send Jasson Dominguez to Tampa Bay
Dominguez was at one point one of the top up-and-coming prospects in baseball. He still has elite potential and a trade could help him unlock with talent with consistent playing time.
Pinstripes Nation analyst Esteban Quinones has come up with an interesting trade between New York and the Tampa Bay Rays. His trade idea would see the Yankees acquire both starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen and left-handed relief pitcher Garrett Cleavinger in exchange for Dominguez and either Will Warren or Luis Gil.
At the end of the day, Dominguez doesn’t have a clear future with New York. The team could keep him around and try to carve out playing time, but trading him for a major need would make a lot of sense.
So far in his MLB career, the 22-year-old outfielder has played in 149 games. He has hit 16 home runs to go along with 58 RBI and a slash line of .248/.327/.397.
Those numbers show a glimpse of his potential. He could figure it out and become a key piece for the Yankees. However, it’s also possible that his career could stall in his current role.
Looking at What New York Would Receive in This Trade Idea
Rasmussen would be a nice addition for the New York rotation. He is coming off of an All-Star appearance during the 2025 season.
Speaking of his 2025 season, the 30-year-old starter made 31 starts. He compiled a 10-5 record to go along with a 2.76 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, a 3.4 K/BB ratio, and 150 innings pitched.
Cleavinger would also be an important addition for a bullpen that could use some help. He was a key bullpen arm for the Rays last season, appearing in 67 games. In those appearances, he compiled a 2-6 record, a 2.35 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP, a 4.6 K/BB ratio, and two saves, 21 holds, four blown saves, and 61.1 innings of work completed.
Both players would be big acquisitions for the Yankees. They would play an immediate role for the 2026 season.
This is just an idea with no reporting about the two teams having any kind of interest in making a deal. Should they open up to dealing with each other, this trade would make a lot of sense for both parties involved.
