Following the revelation that Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks is uncertain, teams around the NBA were sent into a frenzy over the possibility of trading for the two-time MVP.

According to ESPN’s Jamal Collier, sources “from several teams” said they will be “meeting soon to discuss a potential trade package for Antetokounmpo, targeting Dec. 15, when players across the league who signed this past offseason can be moved.”

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Wednesday that Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, are “having conversations” with the Bucks regarding the star forward’s future with the franchise. Sources told Charania that “a resolution to these talks is expected in the coming weeks.”

Antetokounmpo has been the longtime face of the Bucks, leading the team to an NBA championship in 2021 and establishing himself as one of the best players on the planet. However, Milwaukee has struggled to achieve success in recent years, getting eliminated from the playoffs in the first round in each of the last three seasons.

According to Charania, “Before the [2025-26] campaign started, sources said Antetokounmpo would examine the Bucks’ first 25 or so games and make decisions on his long-term future, depending on whether the team showed signs of competing in the Eastern Conference.” Milwaukee has a 10-13 record and ranks 10th in the East.

To make matters worse, Antetokounmpo suffered a calf strain early in Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons and will likely miss extended time, making it even harder for the Bucks to string together some wins and climb up the standings. Any further struggles could push the 30-year-old to force his way out of Milwaukee.

It remains to be seen whether another team can put together a package that would convince the Bucks to ship away Antetokounmpo, but the writing is on the wall for his eventual departure from the only franchise he’s ever known.
