Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant recently purchased a house in Miami.
Morant was listed as an executor of a trust that purchased a $3.2 million home in Miami-Dade County on Dec. 23, according to Lucas Finton and Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko reported Wednesday that the Miami Heat have “quickly emerged as an attractive option to Morant and his camp” as a potential trade destination.
The house Morant purchased is roughly four miles away from the Kaseya Center, Miami’s home arena (via Finton and Cole).
The Heat and Grizzlies have held preliminary discussions regarding Morant’s availability despite links between both sides being “premature,” according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. The talks have yet to escalate and a trade isn’t imminent.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Friday that Memphis was entertaining offers involving Morant for the first time in his career, with multiple teams expressing interest in his services.
The Minnesota Timberwolves, Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks have also expressed a desire to add Morant, per Iko.
The two-time All-Star’s 2025-26 campaign has been tumultuous, as he’s only appeared in 18 of Memphis’ first 39 games. Morant has dealt with a calf strain this year and was also suspended for one contest due to conduct detrimental to the team following an argument with Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo.
When available, he’s averaged 19.0 points and 7.6 assists per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 20.8 percent from three-point territory.
Interested teams will hope that a change of scenery can help Morant look like his former self, as he led Memphis to playoff appearances in four of his first six years with the organization.
As for the Heat, they currently sit at No. 8 in the Eastern Conference standings with a 21-19 record.
