Detroit Pistons G Cade Cunningham talks end of loss to Boston Celtics
Detroit Pistons G Cade Cunningham talks end of loss to Boston Celtics at TD Garden in Boston on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025.
MILWAUKEE — Giannis Antetokounmpo may be on the move.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ superstar is discussing with the team “whether his best fit is staying or a move elsewhere,” according to ESPN. In other words, he’s soft-launching a trade request. The news arrives right as the Detroit Pistons prepare to face the Bucks on the road Wednesday, a game that Antetokounmpo (left adductor strain management) is listed as probable to play in.
The Bucks are outside the East play-in race after losing eight of their last 10 games, and are 9-13 overall. The Pistons are among the teams with the resources to potentially pry Antetokounmpo away, with all of their future draft picks available and a deep roster of players on good contracts.
If traded, Antetokounmpo is likely to fetch back an enormous haul. What could that look like for the Pistons?
Here’s a trade that works financially, according to Spotrac.com’s NBA trade machine.
Pistons send: Tobias Harris, Isaiah Stewart, Ausar Thompson, four first-round picks (2026, 2028, 2030, 2032) and three first-round pick swaps (2027, 2029, 2031).
Pistons acquire: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
Yes, this would be an all-in move for the Pistons. They would surrender all of their draft capital through the next seven years, as well as two of the league’s best defenders in Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart, and a reliable veteran in Harris.
That’s the price if you want one of the greatest players in NBA history — a perennial MVP candidate who, at 31, is still at the apex of his powers. With Antetokounmpo and Cade Cunningham, the Pistons arguably would have two top-10 players and would solidify their position at the top of the pecking order in the Eastern Conference.
But that’s not to say the Pistons, who are off to their best start in two decades at 17-4 overall, are weighing a blockbuster move. Jalen Duren may join Cunningham as an All-Star this season, and Thompson and Stewart are leading a top-five defense. Their patient approach, thus far, has worked out better than anyone could’ve guessed.
Trade rumors will heat up as we get closer to the Feb. 5 trade deadline. For the first time in years, the Pistons are actually in position to be in the discussion.
