In return, the Cardinals will receive RHP Jack Martinez, who was selected in the 8th round of last year’s MLB Draft.
This year, the Colorado Rockies will pay the rebuilding St. Louis Cardinals $5 million, their last financial commitment in the trade.
The move finds a declining Arenado on a team that will see him returning to Coors Field more frequently. A Rockies fan favorite, the Rockies decision to trade Arenado to the Cardinals remains a source of contention.
