A major ecommerce platform that services thousands of online shopping websites has been hit by a major outage, throwing Cyber Monday into chaos today (December 1)
Business owners around the world have stated issues with Shopify outages on one of the busiest online retail days of the year.
Downdetector, which records online outages, has seen thousands of reports from online retailers made from places around the world.
Speaking on X, Shopify said it is “aware” of an issue causing problems for some stores hosted on the platform.
The said: “We’re aware of an issue with Admins impacting selected stores, and are working to resolve it. For the most up-to-date information, please refer to our status page at http://shopifystatus.com. Thank you for your patience.”

The last update from Shopify was posted three hours ago with no post on X since to confirm the issues had been resolved.
Meanwhile, Downdetector continues to see reports made form multiple countries.
Many unhappy users are turning to Shopify’s support page asking for updates.

One X users said: “What’s the status of fixing the store issues today? The fact I can’t access my store during our Black Friday sale is unacceptable…”
Another added: “Shopify is down , status page shows Degraded Performance but I am not able to login @ShopifySupport can you at least provide ETA and reason for this outage? is our customer data safe? is our data and financial information safe?”
Harley Finkelstein, president of Shopify, also received comments after he posted: “HAPPY CYBER MONDAY! Let’s finish strong!!”
One commented: “Shopify has been down for over an hour for us. Can’t see or fulfill orders. API not hitting our backup fulfillment systems either. Help!”
A second added: “Read the room bro, we can’t process orders.”
