Shopify down: Multinational e-commerce platform Shopify suffered a significant outage on Monday around 12:30 p.m. ET, with Downdetector showing a sharp spike in reports and the company acknowledging “issues when trying to login to Shopify.” Nearly 2,500 users reported being unable to access the platform at the height of the disruption.
The outage hit on Cyber Monday, one of the biggest online sale days in the United States, intensifying frustration among merchants who rely on Shopify for traffic and transactions on the year’s most crucial e-commerce day.

On X, the platform stated: “We’re aware of an issue with Admins impacting selected stores, and are working to resolve it. For the most up-to-date information, please refer to our status page at http://shopifystatus.com. Thank you for your patience.” But comments on the post show many merchants claiming that the issue is far more widespread, with the majority of stores unable to log in.

What Shopify say about the outage?
Throughout the day, Shopify continued to post updates on its status page, noting that it was investigating the disruptions and applying mitigations. The company repeatedly urged users to remain logged in on any devices that were still active. Its statements included: “We are continuing to investigate and apply mitigations for the issues with accessing Admins and POS systems. Some merchants may also see an issue with POS checkouts, due to not being able to access POS systems.” It later added: “We are still investigating and applying mitigations for the admin and login issues. Please remain logged in on any devices that are currently logged in.”
Earlier updates stated: “We are continuing to investigate the current issue. To help avoid complications, please remain logged in on any devices that are currently logged in,” and “We are investigating and will keep you updated.” In its first update of the day, Shopify said: “Merchants may experience issues when trying to login to Shopify. We are currently investigating and will keep you updated. Merchants may also encounter issues logging into POS, Mobile, and while attempting to contact Shopify Support.”
Why is Shopify down?
Despite the continuous communication, Shopify has not given any exact reason for why the platform went down. The company says the investigation is ongoing as merchants across the US continue facing disruptions during one of the most critical sales events of the year.
