Shoppers looking to support local farmers and small businesses have a new opportunity to do so in Winston-Salem. The first Trade Street Farmers Market of 2026 is set for Sunday. Hailing from Los Angeles, he was used to a constantly bustling city, and found that wasn’t the case in Winston-Salem.”Sunday, being kind of a sleepy day downtown, there’s honestly just not a lot to do in Winston on a Sunday,” he said. That’s why last year, he decided to create something to do on the same street as his store. “After being down here for two years, I started to think like, ‘Oh, it’d be really great if I had a farmer’s market I could just like walk to before or after work,'” he said.Keep up with the latest news and weather by downloading the WXII app here.With that inspiration, the Trade Street Farmers Market was born. The first market was held in October 2025, and every month since then, it and brought together vendors selling made-to-order food and beverages, and farmers selling their fresh produce.”It is so challenging and so hard to grow food,” Dubinsky said. “It’s also very rewarding to grow food, and so giving the farmers who are here in Winston an opportunity to be able to grow that food and also sell it to people who are local — it’s just really important to me to eat local food, and just know where it’s coming from and handing that money directly to them.”Watch: NOWCAST streaming newscastsWhile shoppers can leave with their weekly groceries, they can also enjoy food at the market. Dubinsky says vendors and food trucks selling matcha, coffee, baked goods, burritos, empanadas, and more can all be found there. He adds it’s not just the vendors who benefit economically from the market, it’s also the stores along Trade Street.”The store owners have told us that they’re busier,” he said. “One of the guys around the corner said he had a line at his door of people waiting to come in.”In 2026, the market will happen on the first Sunday of each month. For Dubinsky, it’s a dozen reminders of how a community can come together.”A lot of local businesses like Mast General, the Katharine, Little Pep, they came together and donated design work, donated tables and chairs, just like all these little things,” he said. “There’s some local residents who have paid outright for all the music that we have at the market, so the musicians who are here are getting paid. So it really became a community market for the community.”The Trade Street Farmers Market begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, and runs until 1 p.m. The next market will be take place during the same times on Feb. 1.
