GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – It’s important to remember safe-buying options for people meeting up to buy products off e-commerce sites like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist.
The reminders come as the search continues in the Milwaukee area for a man who attempted to rob and shoot another man who met him hoping to buy a PlayStation 5.
Green Bay’s internet purchase exchange location features a parking lot monitored 24-7 by surveillance cameras so potential buyers and sellers can safely complete their online purchases.
Other communities have safe exchange locations as well. They are typically near law enforcement buildings.
In Green Bay, the exchange location is right outside the eastside community policing center.
Safety recommendations for online purchases
Facebook Marketplace offers safety tips for users meeting in person.
If you notice any signs of suspicious activity, you should immediately cancel the transaction and report the listing and the seller.
You should also keep your home address private, meet at a well-lit public space, share your meeting plan with someone close to you and carry as little cash as needed to your meeting location.
You are also encouraged to keep your local police department’s phone number on speed dial if you are still concerned about your safety.
A list of local law enforcement agencies where you can meet buyers or sellers can be found online.
