SEVEN HILLS, Ohio —
Fraud, Tanglewood Lane: On Nov. 25, a Tanglewood Lane resident said she was a victim of a fraud.
An officer talked to the woman, who said five days prior she had received a phone call from a man saying he was from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
He told the resident he needed money to track down local hackers and put them in jail.
However, he needed the funds in bitcoin.
The woman withdrew money from her bank and bought more than $18,000 worth of bitcoin with him on the line at various bitcoin ATMs.
It wasn’t until she received a call from her bank that the resident discovered it was a scam.
There are no suspects. Police are investigating.
Drunken driving, Broadview Road: On Nov. 21, police observed a speeding black Jeep not only dangerously cut off another vehicle but also run a red light by stopping after the solid white line stop line on Broadview Road.
Clocked at 70 mph in a 35-mph section of Broadview Road, the Jeep also ran the red light at Ridgewood Drive before being pulled over.
While talking to the driver, the officer smelled alcohol.
Asked where he was coming from, the Seven Hills resident said he had been at a fundraiser where he had a “couple of beers.”
After failing a field sobriety test, the man was arrested and accused of drunken driving and cited with speeding, failing to obey traffic control devices and weaving.
