The Seattle Kraken tenure of Mason Marchment is over after just 29 games.

On Friday night, the Kraken announced a trade of their big offseason acquisition, sending the forward to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Kraken have received a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft in return.

Marchment was acquired from the Dallas Stars by the Kraken on June 19 for a pair of draft picks.

The Kraken’s trade comes amid a season-worst slide of 10 losses in their last 11 games, which has pulled Seattle under .500 after the strongest start in franchise history. At 12-14-6, the Kraken have dropped to last place in the eight-team Pacific Division with 30 points in the standings.

“I’d like to thank Mason for his contributions to our club, and we wish him and his family all the best in Columbus,” Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said in a press release. “This trade gives us more draft capital and flexibility as we look to improve our team moving forward.”

The 30-year-old Marchment had 13 points (four goals, nine assists) and 26 penalty minutes this season for the Kraken.

Prior to joining Seattle, Marchment spent the previous three seasons with Dallas, which came after two with the Florida Panthers. He broke into the NHL in 2019-20 with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Marchment had 47 points in 62 games last season with Dallas, and a career-high 53 points in 81 games for the Stars in 2023-24.
