A transaction that would take the Guthrie family minutes to complete as her deadline approaches
As the deadline to find Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC’s “Today” anchor, Savannah Guthrie, approaches, crucial information has now been released to the public involving a bitcoin ransom allegation.
A bitcoin account has been allegedly set up to exchange monetary funds for Guthrie’s mother. The ransomers have been communicating with the family through the media for the past week and are seeking a $6 million transfer.
However, it is unclear whether or not this transfer will lead to her release. As of the most recent, there have not been any offers of proof of life or contact with her possible captors.
Over the weekend, Savannah and her family stated that they are willing to pay the $6 million if it means that they get their mother back. The note stated that the first deadline was set for last Thursday, but gave them a second deadline of this evening at 5 p.m. (Tucson time).
“We beg you now to return our mother to us so we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay,” Savannah and her siblings took to Instagram on Saturday.
The account is up for public view and currently stands at $0 with no transactions yet made. A source from Fox News stated that a bitcoin transaction, even with such a high amount, would be quick. Even if the Guthrie family has never exchanged cryptocurrency, they could open the wallet, deposit and sent it. It is only a matter of clicks.
Harvey Levin from TMZ received the note through the outlet and described its minor details. Authorities are taking the matter very seriously while performing a thorough investigation.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department stated that the investigation is still ongoing. However, they still do not have a suspect or person of interest. Investigators were also searching the septic tank behind Nancy’s home on Sunday.
The 84 year-old was reported missing on February 1 after failing to make an appearance at her local church. Her daughter Annie and husband Tommaso Cioni were the last to see her.
